AOL Data Stats

Though the snafoo by AOL in realeasing their search data has landed them in hot water and 3 of their bigwigs out of a job, the data it has revealed has been very interesting to pore over. One interesting statistic to come out of it confirms what we thought all along, being on page 1 is a whole lot better than any of the others. The following graph shows that 91.63% of users click results on page 1 and not many go past page 3.

In addition to these numbers, being in Position #1 is of course the best spot to be on with just over 45% clicking on top spot, dropping down to under 15% for 2nd place. Our strategy continues to be to shoot for a higher ranking for a lower searched keyword first and these stats reveal why.
