Are we creating a marketing chasm?
Remember back when computers first started to become “the thing”, some had them and others did not and very quickly it became a divide and there was much talk about the haves and have nots. While it can be debated I believe much of that issue has been erased at least in the United States – though I know some of you might not agree – go with me for a short time longer.
I believe we are creating a much more involved scenario with online marketing. At Dinkum our strategy is that I bring in the work, introduce the technical team and just monitor the situation. The reason for this is because the team can be much more aware of the technical solutions than I – just give me enough to be dangerous, understand the logic and need for an approach and let me run with it.
Now how about the small and mid-sized companies who don’t have the luxury of a technical expert – let alone a team of experts. Does it become mandatory they hire more folks like me for this? While this sounds intriguing and I am never one to walk away from the next juicy opportunity – I wonder when things will shake out to the point that these companies can catch up.
I am still doing presentations where the letters SEO heve been heard but not really understood. Is it really cheaper and a better ROI for them to continue to do things “as we have always done them”? I may be biased but it is all too obvious that those implementing the right strategy for their company can often find a much better ROI online than with traditional approaches but they are so confused that they dare not try this still new thing. Don’t get lulled into thinking the Internet has always been around.
As more and more companies actually do figure out things out – either on their own or increasingly with hiring a firm it becomes more complicated as you try to get noticed in a crowded field. Ah but it has always been that way? I say “NOT”.
Never before have we been competing as globally as we are now so the number of competitors is growing making it even more crowded so the ways needed to stand out become more creative on our end but even more complicated for those who could stand to gain the most. Is there a divide?
You tell me – thoughts???
