If you haven’t had a chance, take a moment and visit Brightcove.com. Brightcove is a video publishing utility that allows sites to create and upload their own video channel. Dozens of well known brands use Brightcove to power the video on their site including National Geographic, Discovery Channel and GM, just to name a few. You can see an extensive listing here. While used by the “big boys”, smaller publishers may also want to consider using their service. As you can see here at their BrightCove.TV site, there are dozens of niche offerings who also take advantage of the BrightCove technology. They offer powerful publishing tools, as well as a fairly robust internet TV community. There is also offer a free white paper that outlines 5 Steps to Internet TV Success.

1. Create Context
Weave video into the fabric of your site. Don’t just slap it up there in a big square box and expect people to watch.

2. Encourage Snacking
Provide a variety of short snippets for people to watch, and sprinkle them across various pages on your site.

3. Produce for the Medium
The internet is a “lean-in” medium, so clips that have a strong and engaging personality speaking directly to the camera can draw an audience.

4. Use Viral Distribution
You can syndicate your content or rely on viral distribution of your content. Either way, make sure you have edgy, interesting content that will catch people’s attention. There are numerous tactical sites that can help you go viral and/or help with syndication.

5. Monetize Your Audience
Monetization is not a one size fits all proposition. Nor should you count on any single tactic to maximize your monetization. Instead, plan on building out a variety of revenue streams around your content, experimenting and improving as you go.
