Digital Assets and SEO: Increasing your Web Visibility

Increase your reach on the Web
A key element to what we do with SEO involves increasing your online reach, primarily on Search Engines. With the sheer volume of folks using Search, the goal is to try to put yourself in as many spots where you or your company can be found. A good strategy for extending that reach is to use as many digital assets as possible, especially the good stuff that is often found laying around collecting cyber dust.
So what can you use as your “digital asset”? Start with the basics:
Articles – for sure you’ve created a series of how-to’s or what-is-this-product-all-about kind of articles for your customers, friends or relatives. Even datasheets can a useful resource that can often be turned into an informative article that ready to distribute. Then you’re ready to go posting. EZineArticles.com or GoArticles.com are a good place to start.
Press Releases – even old press releases can be upgraded to be more relevant. If not, then think about pretty much anything that you may find even mildly interesting about who you are or what you do to share with the world. It may connect with a prospect who stumbles across it on Google by typing in “who you are or what you do”. We like prleap.com, prweb.com but there are so many out there, do some experimenting.
Video – it’s still hot. It’s still a preferred medium for many Web users to get their information. It offers a visual of what you’re trying to do and there’s a whole lot of video websites out there to help spread the word. Many of you may already have a how-to or a product video which may be OK for distributing but there are also a few screen capture programs out there that make putting a presentation video together relatively easy. Be careful of copyright material though, this is an area that gets folks into a lot of strife. Looking for running shoes? How to play the Clarinet? Seriously, there’s something for everyone.
So that should get you started. Then you can blog about it, tweet it, pop ‘em on your Facebook page, add it to MySpace (wha?), YouTube, Bebo, Buzz, Orkut, and then tweet it again.

Great read. I assume that when you talk video you are going from a purely promotional standpoint and not really an SEO standpoint? (ie. videos have no text, so you include your site url). What is your opinion on press releases? It is an area that I don’t use often as it can get pricey (ie. prweb). Not sure if it always justifies the price. Thanks.
Thanks for the post very good content. For the Articles would you suggested posting manually or the use an article posting website?
Actually we encourage a mixed approach. Some of the better content hubs really need greater attention. But to maximize distribution, article distribution software is very useful.
