GOOGLE: DIDJA KNOW?

by Paul Mo on July 23, 2009. Posted under: Search Engines.

This is the first of an ongoing series of articles describing the hidden world of Google.

We all know and love (I think!) Google, the search engine giant. Google comes with many search tools of which most people are unaware of today. Therefore, I’d like to share a few of those little known secrets of Google search.

Didja Know:

  1. Using Quotes Returns the Exact Search Phrase.
“Philadelphia Eagles” only gets results for that exact phrase
  2. You can add a negative keyword filters results.
“-Terrell Owens” eliminates mentions of T.O (thank goodness)
  3. You can quickly convert currencies by inserting “in”;
Example: “150 euros in us dollars”
  4. Getting movie times and reviews are simple.
Use the title and zip code: “Movie: Harry Potter 19122″
  5. You can learn about a website using the “info” operator: “info:www.dinkuminteractive.com”.

You find information like:

Google’s most recent cache of www.dinkuminteractive.com
Web pages similar to www.dinkuminteractive.com
Web pages that link to www.dinkuminteractive.com
Web pages from the site www.dinkuminteractive.com
Web pages that contain the term “www.dinkuminteractive.com”

If you’d like to dig a little deeper into the world of Google, I suggest the Simply Google website:
http://www.usabilityviews.com/simply_google.htm

It’s all Google all the time. Simply Google provides every search option offered by Google and contains links to major Google-related blogs, products, tools, and sites.

It may become my new home page!

Stay tuned for future posts on this topic, as well as others observations on interactive advertising.
