Search Engine Updates – Hold on to your rankings, it's rough out there.

The 3 big search engines are all doing some tweaking to their indexes that may have substantial impact on some rankings. Google is updating its back links on a few of its data centers which shouldn’t impact positions immediately but you should be concerned if you see the number of incoming links drop.

Yahoo! has actually rolled out a new search index to a great deal of criticism as it seems to have lost whatever relevancy it used to have.

MSN made an initial attempt at rolling out their new index update but quickly came across a bug which resulted in the top 5 sites being duplicated on the 2nd page results, so they rolled it back. For some light reading, you can follow the forum featuring MSNDude as he discusses the issue with site owners.

Stick to your initial game plan and don’t be overly concerned if your site drops out for a couple of days. If it drops out for a couple of weeks, then you can be concerned.
