SEO Myths That Should Die: # 2

Continuing our series of SEO myths that should die, today’s candidate is a good one:

Google PageRank is Related to Google Rankings

Google PageRank has held a special, yet misguided, place in the hearts of online marketers and businesses for a long time. While it may have been useful once long ago, that’s no longer the case. Google uses hundreds of factors to determine the value of a webpage and it’s overly simplistic to think that it all boils down to one number.  In addition if PageRank is all that important, how could you explain the regularly occurring phenomena of a PR 2 page ranking more highly than a PR 4 page?

In closing, I think this myth will be tough to kill off, since everyone is looking for a single, easy to understand metric that they can point to.
