So Ya Wannabe A YouTube Rock Star?
OK, so maybe it’s time to actually post a video to YouTube.Especially after reading the highly entertaining and informative eBook by Kevin “Nalts” Nalty, How To Become Popular On YouTube (Without Any Talent).
http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/01/04/another-take-on-getting-videos-to-go-viral/
Nalts has been at this for a while now – 100s and 100s of his often hilarious video clips are available at his very popular YouTube channel – and this wealth of experience is now available to the rest of us at the low low cost of FREE. That’s right. This is a FREE eBook. Now in most cases you get what you pay for, but that’s not the case with How To Become Popular On YouTube (Without Any Talent). No, Nalts’ eBook really does have page after page of good, “actionable” advice for the both the beginning and advanced YouTube mogul-wannabes out there.
Some of the especially shiny nuggets can be found in the wildly popular Chapter 4 – How To Make Videos That Don’t Suck:
- Find a unique style and stick with it.
- Popular videos tend to be short, fast-paced, and offer a “big finish”.
- When possible, use an external microphone and avoid public places with horrible acoustics and ambient sounds.
- Your video is more than just the video. Your thumbnail, description, title and even keyword tags are part of the package. If these elements aren’t consistent with your video idea, it won’t have the same impact.
Nalts also shares quite a bit of wisdom about becoming an active member in the YouTube community (in which he has achieve iconic status of sorts). Not only can your community offer you valuable feedback, but they can also help spread the word about about your Golden Globe masterpiece.
In addition to these, and dozens of other helpful tips, How To Become Popular On YouTube (Without Any Talent) contains all kinds of useful links to other sites and resources.
All in all, if you are just getting started with YouTube video, or if you’ve been publishing clips for a while, but are looking to “Go Viral, then there probably isn’t a better (or cheaper!) place to go than How To Become Popular On YouTube (Without Any Talent). I have met Nalts and am surprised that you mention “quite a bit of wisdom” in the same sentence as his name.
I’m only kidding Nalts, I know how sensitive you are. His tireless efforts in building his community is certainly an inspiration for videographers and vloggers (and companies for that matter). I just wish his e-book wasn’t so expensive.
Great blog. Very informative. Thanks.
You blog post was very informative, I learned a lot about link building.
There are different tips for different people. Along with public videos, there are people who upload presentation and other slide shows. Believe me, A presentation full of information can beat a video in far better way.
I am interested in You-tube and other forms of video marketing, but how do you market a video you can’t optimize?
Thanks,
Tom
Great info. I’m new to blogging and using YouTube to get traffic. Thanks.
If you are looking into a possibility of exploring YouTube with a view of publishing clips, ‘How to Become Popular on YouTube’ seems like pure gold. It’s cheap and not short of good advice. Leave it at your own peril!
Your article really explains how to be successful on youtube and it is essential now for video marketers as they can make a good amount of $$$ from youtube.
You Tube is really easy to get yourself a whole lot of attention. If you happen to be a decent looking girl and the thumbnail shows that, it should guarenetee a bunch of hits a day.
Very interesting. However I wonder if there is a special formula you can follow to become famous. I mean it seems that it is extreamly random what becomes super popular.
Let’s not forget that some YouTube celebrities became famous by accident — those who simply uploaded videos for the fun of it.
I think anyone can be popular on Youtube if they have hilarious content.
Sweet, I’ve always wanted to be a big star. Lets create some scandals, eh? :)
Well, my thoughts about Youtube have been turned upside down. Now, I have to say that there are remaining respinsble Youtubers who got to share valuable information for free. Never heard of Free Ebook anyway. I would have to check it for myself. Being a star with no talent? Hmmmm…Thanks anyway.
Youtube popularity is a strange animal.
Thanks for the tip!
It’s getting harder and harder for newbies to start up a youtube video personality. There are so many prominant “youtube celebrities” that they are not leaving room for the little guy anymore. But this advice might go a long way.
Cheers
Eric
Thats really useful
youtube is very powerful tool for publication, add rich content, and nice illustration can boost direct traffic
Yeah. there are a lot that claims Youtube really can help you get the traffic you want but hope that everyone use it with precaution.

Its actually surprisingly hard to be a youtube star. I’d say just as hard to be a real star. there are literally millions of people trying to get ‘popular’ on youtube.
Maybe as an extra point you should add “Video should be funny if possible”
I think the most successful videos and youtube are essentially funny and memorable. If you can get someone to laugh, odds are they’ll remember the video, recommend it to others and have a positive reaction to what ever product you are trying to push.
I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.
Can you get better marketing than if you get a hit on Utube, well yes, you get much exposure but that doesn’t count to much if you doesn’t have a big worldwide business. Anyway, exposure is always good if it’s not negative exposure.
That is just what I waS LOOKING FOR,THANK YOU M8
YouTube is a service that lets people share their own videos, so if you shot some funny video or a family movie & want to share it with the world, you can do so at YouTube, without having to pay anything for hosting your videos & the people can watch it for free as well!!
Your blog is very interresting for me, i will come back here..
Informative article thanks, I’ll try to this book of Naltz and learn more about viral marketing. Thanks.
Thanks for the information about Kevin Nalty. This is a good source on how to improve on you tube. I’ll be checking his book after this. Thanks
