Twitter is among the most popular social media tools for connecting people. Over the last year, it has captured the imagination of individuals and businesses alike. Many people have found it to be an addictive way to meet new people as well as stay connected with friends and family, however businesses continue to struggle with how to use Twitter effectively.

Titter Tool-itis

Like most things online, there is a dizzying array of tools and most businesses challenged with finding the right tool for their use is destined for a dose of Twitter Tool-itis. As a result, Dinkum Interactive continues to evaluate a variety of tools and approaches to find those that offer the most juice for the Twitter squeeze.

Buzzom: Good for Improving Quantity or Quality

After considering sorting through a number of tools, let me tell you about our recent experience with Buzzom. I’ll preface my remarks by stating that our experiment is ongoing and that I haven’t used all of the features.
Buzzom bills itself as a Twitter management tool; sure it has a desktop client, integrated firefox tool bar, tweet scheduler and the like, but it’s most interesting feature is the ability to batch follow and unfollow. Without debating the Quantity vs. Quality issue, this feature enables users to identify a group of people to follow. Here’s a quick video covering Buzzom’s Flush, Grow and Reciprocate features:

Summary on Buzzom

Organically cultivating a community of followers for a business can take care and feeding, but so far I’ve found that Buzzom can be a useful tool when thoughtfully used. I must admit that I was a bit repulsed when initially considering the use of “batch” features, but after some experimentation it seems as though it can be useful. The search feature that enables users to find Tweeps located in specific geographies or interested in particular topics can be a big time saver. Furthermore, enough information on each Twitter user is just enough to make an educated guess on their value to your Twitter-based social media campaign; of course “your mileage may vary.” On the downside, most of the other features seem to be offered by many other tools and there is relatively little documentation which requires the user to waste time getting up to speed. With that said, overall I feel that Buzzom is a decent tool and I encourage those interested in growing their number of relationships via Twitter to give it a try.

Have you used this, or other Twitter tools for business? What is the best tool you’ve found for your application?
