Fortunately we haven’t seen any drastic changes in ranking on our client websites. Occasionally though, we get some other clients asking us what happened to their website. They may have been placed well on Google but suddenly they dropped off…some even removed completely. While those who have been removed completely are a unique case in themselves (most likely banned for using blackhat techniques) those who have merely dropped places may have been victim to the Google updates that happen every now and again.
One of the curses of our jobs is being at the whim of a third-party organization, something that is essentially out of our hands. The following article may explain a few things for those of you that have suffered at the hands of the search behemoth.

Last year, it was Panda. Now, it’s Penguin. Both are cute black and white animals, but also the names of Google’s changes to its algorithm that determine search results. It’s part of an effort to remove spammy websites and systems set up to game them, and fighting techniques well-known to the SEO community as gray/black hat activities (against Google’s guidelines).
